WOMAD Cape Town Festival Features United 4 Humanity Concert
Musicians and performers from Cape Town and abroad are gathering across the city for a festival focused on cultural diversity, compassion, unity and love.
The WOMAD Cape Town festival brought together a broad gathering of artistic performances and public cultural events throughout the South African city from Sept. 15 through Sept. 24, 2026. According to reporting from Fouzia van der Fort for Sentinel News, the festival’s programming was based primarily at the Artscape Theatre Centre, with additional activities held at other locations.
A primary feature of the schedule was the “United 4 Humanity” Desmond Tutu Peace Concert. The performance was set for Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. and was organized in partnership with the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation.
The concert was connected to the foundation’s Tutu95 campaign, which recognized the 95th birthday of Desmond Tutu. The event also commemorated the 30th anniversary of South Africa’s Constitution.
Organizers framed the concert and the wider festival around themes of cultural diversity, compassion and unity. Those principles guided a program that included artists from Cape Town as well as performers from outside South Africa.
The announced concert lineup included Dyskinetic, a performer from the United Kingdom. Local and regional participants included the Unmute Dance Company and Jitsvinger. Koko Jean and the Tonics, along with Kimyan Law, were also scheduled to appear.
The mix of performers reflected the festival’s stated focus on bringing different creative practices and cultural experiences into a shared space. Music and dance were positioned as ways to recognize both Tutu’s legacy and the constitutional milestone.
Artscape Theatre Centre served as the central venue for the festival’s Cape Town activities. By extending the schedule across multiple sites and ten days, organizers created opportunities for audiences to engage with different portions of the program beyond the peace concert.
The United 4 Humanity event occupied a distinct place within that calendar because of its connection to the Tutu95 campaign. Its title directly referenced the festival’s emphasis on social connection and common purpose.
Sentinel News reported the scheduled dates, venues and participating performers. Details about the festival’s attendance or the final results of each event were not included in the verified information available to Kulture Newz.
