Virginia State's Trojan Explosion Band Hits 200-Member Milestone
The Virginia State University Trojan Explosion Marching Band has grown to more than 200 members, the largest roster in school history and in the CIAA. The program currently sits at No. 1 in the HBCU Division II Band Media Poll.

HBCU Gameday reported the milestone caps years of growing national visibility for the Petersburg, Va., program, which has performed at the White House and on NBC's TODAY Show. Director Dr. Taylor Whitehead credited the growth to the hard work and dedication of the entire program.
The Trojan Explosion finished as Division II runner-up in the Red Lobster Band of the Year competition in 2023 and 2024. Students from across the country have joined as the band's profile has risen.
