During a rally held in Syracuse, New York, Donald Trump voiced strong dissatisfaction with the Norwegian Nobel Committee after the organization chose to bestow this year's Nobel Peace Prize on South African human rights advocate Navi Pillay, according to reporting by Complex. Trump delivered a speech targeting both the international committee and the winner of the award, claiming that his own diplomatic achievements had been overlooked. Pillay, who serves as a judge on the International Court of Justice, was selected for the honor because of her dedicated work to advance international law and global peace, according to Complex.

In an official statement announcing the award, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, who serves as the Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, praised Pillay's lifelong dedication, noting that her work represents a source of hope and inspiration to all those who seek to bring about a more peaceful world. Trump took direct issue with Pillay's background during his remarks in Syracuse. According to Complex, Trump labeled her a liberal person who works at the United Nations and referred to her as a mystery person.

Trump claimed that he had never heard of her prior to the announcement, adding his belief that nobody else had either. The former president then expanded his critique to encompass the United Nations as a whole. Trump told the crowd that during all of the international conflicts he worked to resolve, he never spoke to the United Nations because they were of no help to him. Moving his focus directly to the awarding body, Trump asserted that the United States, represented by him as president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, Complex reported.

He told the audience that the choice made by the committee constituted a disgraceful and embarrassing decision. Trump argued that the outcome left an indelible stain on the country of Norway and added a direct warning, stating that they would never forget Norway for passing over his accomplishments. During his speech, Trump gave himself credit for ending multiple international disputes. According to reporting by Complex, Trump stated that he stopped eight wars during his presidency.

Based on that claim, Trump argued that he should have received eight Nobel Peace Prizes in total, assigning one award for each conflict he claimed to have successfully halted. Despite the verbal attacks delivered during the Syracuse rally, the Norwegian Nobel Committee's recognition of Pillay highlights her decades of international legal service and advocacy for global peace, according to Complex. The decision remains a focal point of discussion as Trump continues to publicly assert that his administrative record deserved multiple Nobel honors instead.
