Oakland hip-hop veteran Too $hort has publicly apologized for previous comments in which he expressed a willingness to attend a welcome-home event for Sean "Diddy" Combs upon his release from federal prison, according to reporting by AllHipHop. The rapper admitted that he spoke before grasping the full scope of abuse allegations brought by numerous women against Combs.

The apology followed widespread public criticism after Too $hort appeared on The TMZ Podcast earlier in the week. As reported by AllHipHop, Too $hort stated that friends and family members flooded his phone with messages after his remarks circulated, prompting him to re-examine the legal case and reflect on his initial perspective.

Too $hort explained that while he was previously aware of hotel video footage showing Combs physically assaulting Cassie Ventura, he had not realized how many women had come forward with additional allegations of abuse. According to AllHipHop's report, Too $hort clarified that he does not condone abuse in any form, including emotional, physical, or sexual mistreatment, and offered a direct apology to those impacted by his words.

Addressing the nature of the gatherings he previously attended, Too $hort emphasized that his willingness to attend a future event referred strictly to traditional celebrity social functions. According to reporting by AllHipHop, the West Coast rapper clarified that he never witnessed sexual misconduct, coercion, or illegal activity at any of the dozens of parties he attended hosted by Combs, rejecting claims that every event involved sexual acts.

Too $hort noted that conversations with family members and reflection on the women in his life—including his daughter, his mother, and extended relatives—helped shift his perspective. AllHipHop reported that Too $hort expressed hope that Combs undergoes meaningful personal growth while serving his sentence and comes out of prison no longer participating in abusive behavior.

Combs is currently serving a 50-month sentence at FCI Fort Dix after a federal jury convicted him in July 2025 on two counts of transportation for prostitution while acquitting him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, according to AllHipHop. Federal prison records indicate a projected release date of January 21, 2028, while prison officials conduct an internal inquiry into allegations concerning his conduct inside the facility.
