Serena Williams Honored With New Mattel Barbie Signature Doll Celebrating 2005 Australian Open Victory
Tennis legend Serena Williams has partnered with Mattel for a new Barbie Signature doll celebrating her championship victory at the 2005 Australian Open. The launch marks Williams' second Barbie collaboration of the year and coincides with International Day of the Girl.

Tennis icon and Olympic gold medalist Serena Williams is being honored by Mattel with a new Barbie Signature doll created in her likeness, according to a report by theGrio. The release officializes the Compton, California native's inclusion in Team Barbie, an initiative highlighted by Mattel as a group of influential athletes and role models dedicated to demonstrating how ambition and self-confidence can empower young girls to achieve their goals.
The newly unveiled doll takes direct inspiration from one of the most memorable milestones in Williams' historic athletic career: her championship triumph over Lindsay Davenport at the 2005 Australian Open. As reported by theGrio, the signature collectible features Williams dressed in a green and white cutout top styled with mesh detailing, paired with a matching white headband and tennis skirt. Accessories included with the doll feature statement earrings, a miniature tennis racket, and a tennis ball.
The announcement coincided with International Day of the Girl, aligning with broader initiatives to encourage young women worldwide. In a statement released by the company, Nathan Baynard, Vice President and Head of Barbie at Mattel, expressed pride in celebrating the legendary athlete. Baynard noted that Barbie has long aimed to inspire girls across all fields, ranging from sports arenas to corporate boardrooms and fashion runways. He stated that Williams embodies this mission through her extraordinary career achievements as an athlete, entrepreneur, and advocate for equality, adding that the new Signature doll honors a barrier-breaking icon whose legacy empowers fans globally to embrace their potential.
This latest release marks the second time Williams has collaborated with the toy maker this year, following the drop of a one-of-a-kind Role Model doll released in March 2026, according to reporting by theGrio. That previous release was part of Barbie's global "Dream Team" initiative, which recognized eight female trailblazers who achieved historic firsts in their respective fields.
For Williams, the collaboration carries deep personal significance rooted in her own childhood experiences. Reflecting on the new release, the legendary champion shared that growing up, she did not see many girls who looked like her being encouraged to believe there were no limits to their potential. She stated that she wants every girl who plays with the doll to recognize possibility not only in her, but within themselves, expressing hope that young girls feel empowered to dream big, work hard, navigate changes, break barriers, and become whatever they choose.
Alongside the doll launch, charitable support is also being extended to community efforts. The Barbie Dream Gap Project announced a financial donation to Mrs. Rina’s House of Blessings in connection with the release, according to theGrio.
