Robert Covington Returns to Tennessee State as Chief Basketball Officer
Former NBA veteran Robert Covington has rejoined his alma mater Tennessee State as chief basketball officer under head coach Nolan Smith. He joins a growing list of former NBA players taking executive roles at HBCU programs.
Tennessee State has brought back former NBA forward Robert Covington in a new role as the men's basketball program's chief basketball officer, according to HBCU Sports. Covington will focus on player relations, community engagement and professional development.
"Rob Covington is a major pillar in TSU basketball history and HBCU basketball history," said head coach Nolan Smith.
Covington, who played at Tennessee State from 2009-2013 and became a three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, joins former NBA players including Kendrick Perkins at Jackson State, Monta Ellis at Alcorn State and John Wall at Howard in HBCU leadership roles.
