First-time coach Queen Latifah is facing one of her toughest tasks yet on NBC's competition series 'The Voice' as the battle rounds kick off, according to reporting by AllHipHop. A preview of the battle rounds features Team Queen contestants Alt Bloom and Morgan Lett performing a duet cover of Lauryn Hill's iconic song 'Ex-Factor.' The performance created a challenging decision for the legendary artist and actress. In the preview clip, Latifah became emotional while praising the pair for their collaborative arrangement and execution.

She acknowledged the strength of both vocalists, telling the contestants, 'You’re both winners to me,' and adding, 'You’re both in my top. Wow, this is wild.' The duet drew varying reactions from the coaching panel. Country star Riley Green indicated a preference for Lett, citing the energy she brought to the stage. Meanwhile, pop artist Kelly Clarkson and veteran coach Adam Levine both highlighted Bloom's vocal range, though Levine stressed that the ultimate call belonged to Latifah.

As Latifah navigates her debut season as a coach, she brought in legendary singer Patti LaBelle to serve as an advisor for her team members during the battle rounds. According to executive producer Audrey Morrissey, Latifah specifically requested LaBelle due to the pivotal mentorship role LaBelle played in Latifah's own entertainment career. Morrissey shared that securing LaBelle was a significant milestone for Latifah, allowing her to pass down the guidance she once received.

To prepare for her coaching role prior to the season premiere, Latifah sought advice from former coach John Legend regarding the mechanics of the show and what to expect during the competition. Latifah noted that Legend reassured her that her decision to join the panel was driven by the right motivations. Latifah stated that her main objective on the show is to grant contestants the space to showcase their individual talent rather than focusing on her own personal achievements.

The stakes in the battle rounds remain high as artists compete for an opportunity to advance toward the show's live broadcast stage. Season 30 brings back a six-week stretch of live competition episodes, featuring real-time voting by viewers with results announced during the same broadcast. The battle-round premiere is scheduled to air Monday at 8 p.m. Eastern on NBC, with episodes available to stream on Peacock the following day.
