Textured hair brand Pressed Roots is venturing outside Texas for the first time, establishing its fifth location in Washington, D.C., as reported by AFROTECH. The silk blowout salon chain, founded by entrepreneur Piersten Gaines, specializes in standardizing and streamlining quality hair services for textured hair. The planned East Coast launch represents a major step in the founder's mission to make high-caliber textured hair care widely accessible across urban markets. Gaines explained to AFROTECH that consumer demand has driven expansion interest from the beginning.

While the business received inquiries from various metropolitan areas nationwide, leadership deliberately chose to hone operational efficiency in Texas before embarking on geographic growth. In her comments to the outlet, Gaines noted that the leadership team wanted to make sure they perfected the model and solidified day-to-day operations prior to branching outside the state, ultimately selecting a market that mirrored the brand's identity and values. Data analysis pointed toward Washington, D.C. because of its strong growth potential, population density, core demographic alignment, and suitable commercial real estate inventory, according to AFROTECH.

Similar to the development strategy deployed across the Dallas area and slated for Houston, Gaines intends to build a cluster of salons across the D.C. metropolitan region rather than relying on an isolated outpost. She described the nation's capital as a strategic entry point for reaching East Coast clientele. The D.C. storefront is slated to welcome clients in early December, delivering the consistent operational standards practiced at existing Texas storefronts.

Gaines attributed this uniformity to proprietary salon technology that equips stylists with structured training and tracks operational key performance indicators. Metrics monitored by the system include average styling duration, client feedback ratings, and retail sales. To sustain performance, the upcoming shop will incorporate a dedicated training station directly on site. This tech-driven infrastructure is central to the salon's efficiency commitments. Gaines shared with AFROTECH that stylists review weekly automated KPI reports generated by their internal systems.

This operational rigor allows the company to honor its service guarantee, ensuring customers finish appointments within 120 minutes. The average client spends roughly 100 minutes in the chair, a benchmark Gaines emphasized is remarkably rare for textured silk blowout services delivered at scale. The brand's business footprint continues to expand alongside its physical real estate. According to data reported by AFROTECH and an official press release, Pressed Roots has executed nearly 15,000 appointments to date and secured new financing that elevates its total funding to $6 million.

The organization currently employs more than 100 people, with headcount projected to hit approximately 150 employees once D.C. operations begin. Gaines emphasized to AFROTECH that demonstrating high profitability and execution in textured hair care challenges long-standing venture capital hesitations around backing diverse founders and niche beauty sectors. Beyond corporate-owned storefronts, Pressed Roots is structuring long-term franchise wealth opportunities. The business has confirmed signing its inaugural franchise partner, who is targeting an opening in 2027, while Gaines actively qualifies additional candidates seeking entrepreneurial ownership pathways.
