Attorneys representing Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty are asking a federal court to intervene over restrictive conditions at Rolling Plains Regional Jail in Haskell, Texas, according to reporting by Baller Alert. The artist, whose legal name is Lontrell Williams Jr., has reportedly been held in his cell for 23 hours each day while awaiting trial on federal charges.

In an emergency motion filed on Thursday, October 15, the defense team argued that the prolonged daily isolation is harming his emotional and psychological health. The filing notes that the rapper has experienced worsening anxiety and trouble sleeping as a direct consequence of the around-the-clock confinement. Defense attorneys emphasized that he has maintained a clean disciplinary record inside the facility and has not exhibited violent or threatening actions that would warrant such housing measures.

According to court filings cited by Baller Alert, detention facility officials offered only general assertions that the restrictions were instituted for his personal safety, without supplying documented security justifications. His legal team argued that such general claims fall short of legitimate penal objectives and run counter to federal standards designed for pretrial detainees who remain legally presumed innocent.

The emergency motion also challenges strict caps placed on his visitation privileges. His attorneys stated that the jail restricts him to just two hours of monthly in-person visitation, half of the four hours typically outlined under federal pretrial detention guidelines. The filing highlighted an incident from August 27, when the rapper's aunt traveled from Memphis to Texas but was granted only one hour of visitation because his girlfriend had visited earlier in the month. In a sworn declaration, his aunt noted both the financial strain of the journey and noticeable shifts in his emotional state, describing him as deeply exhausted and visibly anxious.

Attorney Kent Schaffer addressed the conditions in a statement shared with XXL, arguing that an unconvicted detainee should not face harsher treatment than a convicted prisoner serving a sentence. Schaffer noted that the proposed order had not yet been executed by the court, but expressed hope for prompt judicial relief to address what he termed inhumane conditions.

The motion formally requests that a federal judge order the U.S. Marshals Service to require Rolling Plains Regional Jail to align its housing practices with general pretrial standards. Counsel requested that the 23-hour daily lockdown cease unless officials present specific, documented disciplinary reasons, and petitioned for his visitation allowance to be increased to at least four hours per month.

The dispute over detention conditions unfolds as Williams prepares to fight federal charges connected to an alleged January 10, 2026, armed confrontation at a recording studio in Dallas involving Gucci Mane and representatives of 1017 Records. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, federal prosecutors allege that Williams and multiple co-defendants orchestrated an armed takeover, displayed weapons, and pressured Gucci Mane to release Williams from his recording contract. Federal authorities further claim that approximately $450,000 in jewelry and cash was taken during the encounter, as reported by the Associated Press.

Williams has pleaded not guilty to all allegations. Federal Judge David C. Godbey previously denied a bond application on July 21, leaving Williams detained. Court records confirm that the trial date has been moved to February 22, 2027, leaving his defense team focused on securing humane pretrial living conditions while proceedings continue.
