Veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has spoken publicly following his unexpected release from the New York Giants, marking an abrupt conclusion to his second stint with the franchise. The team officially released Beckham on Sept. 29 after just three games into the season. According to reporting by theGrio, the 33-year-old receiver addressed his departure in comments on social media, expressing frustration over his limited involvement in the team's offense and questioning the motivation behind his return to New York.

Beckham originally began his professional career with the Giants when the organization selected him 12th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. After taking time away from the field and sitting out the entire 2025 season, Beckham agreed to return to the organization on a veteran-minimum contract ahead of the campaign. According to details reported by theGrio, Beckham successfully earned a spot on New York's initial 53-man roster, entering the season with expectations that he would actively contribute on the field as part of the team's receiver rotation.

Despite making the active roster, Beckham's actual playing time proved extremely limited across the opening weeks of the season. Reports indicate that Beckham logged roughly 20 offensive snaps in total over the course of three games. During those limited appearances, he was targeted by quarterbacks only once, a pass that fell incomplete. As a result, Beckham completed his brief second tenure with the Giants without recording a single official reception.

Following his release, Beckham reacted on Instagram to a post alleging that the Giants brought him back primarily for public relations and media attention. According to reporting by theGrio, Beckham appeared to align with that sentiment, writing that "they got me" and stating "they won." In his posts, Beckham stated that he had approached the opportunity "HUMBLY", accepted the minimum salary requirements, and believed he had rightfully earned his place on the squad. Reflecting on the outcome, he wrote, "I shoulda known better."

Furthermore, Beckham clarified that he does not view his release from New York as an indication that his football career is finished. He shared his belief that he could have provided valuable play elsewhere in the league had he chosen a different path, writing, "I coulda really been playing this year somewhere and making a impact." As noted in the reporting, Beckham's assessment that returning to New York potentially cost him other opportunities around the league remains his personal viewpoint.

On the team's side, Giants head coach John Harbaugh offered a contrasting explanation regarding why the organization decided to part ways with the veteran wideout. According to the reporting, Harbaugh stated that the move was strictly performance-based and driven by roster composition rather than external publicity or Beckham's widespread popularity. Harbaugh noted that "it just wasn't working for us," explaining that the offensive coaching staff could not find a way to get Beckham sufficiently involved in their system and needed greater production from that roster position. Following the move, the Giants adjusted their personnel by acquiring return specialist Braxton Berrios to address specific roster needs.
