Nkechi Okoro Carroll Set to Pen Martha's Vineyard NBA Romance 'Vineyard Haven' for Amazon MGM
Writer and executive producer Nkechi Okoro Carroll is scripting a new feature romantic drama titled 'Vineyard Haven' for Amazon MGM Studios. Produced alongside Berlanti Schechter Films, the film follows two former teenage summer sweethearts who reconnect nearly a decade later when one has become an NBA star.

Amazon MGM Studios is expanding its slate of romantic dramas with the development of "Vineyard Haven," tapping prolific writer and producer Nkechi Okoro Carroll to pen the screenplay and executive produce the project, according to reporting by The Hollywood Reporter. The feature will be produced under the Berlanti Schechter Films banner, with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Michael McGrath serving as producers.
The storyline of "Vineyard Haven" follows two young people who form an intense bond during a memorable summer spent on Martha’s Vineyard. While both harbor hopes of reuniting on the island in subsequent years, their timing never aligns. Their long-delayed reunion finally arrives nearly a decade later under dramatically altered personal stakes. The young man has grown into a high-profile NBA superstar who returns to the historic vacation haven to rehabilitate an athletic injury, while the young woman has returned home in search of restoration after navigating a difficult marriage.
The project continues Okoro Carroll’s track record of examining the pressures of athletic careers alongside emotional relationships. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Okoro Carroll previously served as executive producer and showrunner for The CW’s high-school-to-college football drama series "All American," which concluded its eighth and final season last month. Building on that flagship property, Okoro Carroll also created, executive produced, and served as showrunner for "All American: Homecoming," a collegiate spinoff centered on HBCU athletic culture and student life.
Okoro Carroll’s television resume extends across multiple genres. In addition to her sports-focused dramas, she serves as the creator, executive producer, and showrunner for the NBC drama series "Found." Her past production credits also include serving as a co-executive producer on the medical drama "The Resident" and the detective series "Rosewood." Okoro Carroll currently develops television programming under an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. In the industry, she is represented by UTA, attorneys Patti Felker and JR McGinnis at Felker McGinnis & Ryan, and manager Adesuwa McCalla at MetaMorphic Entertainment.
The production partnership brings "Vineyard Haven" into the pipeline of Berlanti Schechter Films, which continues to manage a wide lineup of high-profile feature projects. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production company's upcoming releases include the Netflix thriller "An Innocent Girl," featuring an ensemble cast that includes Kerry Washington, James Marsden, Colman Domingo, and Chloe East. The banner is also working with Amazon MGM on the sequel "Red, White & Royal Wedding," which will see actors Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez reprise their respective roles.
Details regarding potential casting, a director attachment, or an anticipated start date for principal photography on "Vineyard Haven" have not been made public. Amazon MGM Studios has not yet announced a targeted premiere window for the feature. Kulture Newz has not independently confirmed additional details regarding the project beyond the initial development reporting.
