NCAA Sanctions Former North Carolina A&T Assistant Coach in Sports Betting Case

The NCAA has issued a four-year show-cause order against former North Carolina A&T assistant men's basketball coach Patrick Herron after finding he violated sports betting rules, according to HBCU Gameday. Herron placed at least $4,000 in bets between December 2023 and November 2024, none involving North Carolina A&T teams.
Investigators found Herron also worked with a bookmaker who was a childhood friend, distributing parlay sheets and receiving a 20% commission. The NCAA classified the conduct as a Level I violation.
Herron reported his own gambling activity to head coach Monté Ross in November 2024 while seeking help for a gambling addiction, and the resolution noted no one else at the university knew about the scheme.
