ESPN Top-100 Recruit Janiyah Weaver Commits to North Carolina A&T Women's Basketball
ESPN Top-100 prospect Janiyah Weaver has committed to North Carolina A&T for the class of 2027. The four-star wing selected the Lady Aggies over major-conference programs, adding top national talent to an established HBCU championship foundation.

North Carolina A&T has secured a major commitment for its women’s basketball program, landing four-star prospect Janiyah Weaver for the class of 2027. According to reporting by HBCU Gameday, Weaver is ranked No. 69 nationally in ESPN’s recruiting index. The standout athlete chose North Carolina A&T over an impressive group of finalists that included Alabama, St. John’s, UCF, Delaware, and Bethune-Cookman. Weaver plays high school basketball for Morrow High School and competes on the club circuit with Bounce Nation.
Her club team described Weaver as the highest-rated prospect to ever commit to an HBCU women’s basketball program. While HBCU Gameday noted that this comparison comes directly from her club rather than a formal cross-platform consensus, the commitment marks a significant victory for the Aggies in a head-to-head recruiting battle against major-conference opponents. Listed as a 6-foot-6 wing by Bounce Nation, Weaver offers a rare combination of size and perimeter skill.
Prep Girls Hoops scout BJ Batson evaluated Weaver while she initiated offense as a point guard for Morrow High School. His report praised her capacity to break down defenders off the dribble, set up scoring opportunities for teammates, stretch defenses with perimeter shooting, rebound efficiently, and alter shots near the basket. Her ability to handle, pass, and score away from the paint provides head coach Tarrell Robinson with broad tactical flexibility.
The acquisition adds elite talent to a program built on a strong championship foundation. Robinson, who assumed leadership of the program in 2012, is the winningest women’s basketball coach in North Carolina A&T history. Under his leadership, the Aggies claimed four MEAC regular-season titles and earned MEAC tournament championships along with NCAA Tournament appearances in 2016, 2018, and 2021. North Carolina A&T continued its winning ways after transitioning to the Coastal Athletic Association.
The team posted a 22-12 record in 2023–24 while reaching the Super 16 of the WNIT. The following year, the Aggies captured the 2024–25 CAA regular-season championship, finishing 19-12 overall and 15-3 in conference play. That squad built its success on a stingy defense that allowed only 55.5 points per game and outscored opponents by an average of eight points. As reported by HBCU Gameday, the Aggies are currently focused on regaining top form following a sub-.500 season.
Robinson brought in nine new additions for the 2026–27 campaign—including six Division I transfers like former Arkansas forward Jada Bates—with an emphasis on enhancing shooting, ball security, depth, and court versatility. Weaver’s commitment extends those long-term roster-building efforts directly into the 2027 recruiting cycle, reinforcing North Carolina A&T's standing as a premier destination capable of competing with major conferences for elite national talent.
