Megan Thee Stallion Reflects on Abrupt Split From Klay Thompson in New Interview
Megan Thee Stallion has opened up about her sudden April split from professional basketball player Klay Thompson in a fresh cover story with Marie Claire. The Grammy-winning artist discussed her emotional recovery, her focus on her upcoming Act: III album, and her decision to prioritize personal peace over romance.

Grammy-winning Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion is speaking publicly about the unexpected conclusion of her relationship with NBA star Klay Thompson, describing the experience as an abrupt shift that left her feeling continuously overwhelmed. According to a cover story published by Marie Claire on Tuesday, Sept. 29, the artist revealed that she is still navigating the emotional aftermath of the April breakup while refocusing her energy on her health and her forthcoming music project, Act: III.
Reflecting on the ending of the romance, Megan shared with Marie Claire that the experience was unlike anything she had encountered in past relationships. She stated that she was still in shock and noted that she is not attempting to pretend everything is completely resolved. She explained that she had never experienced a relationship dynamic like that previously and clarified that pursuing a new romantic connection is not a priority for her at this time, emphasizing that she is not thinking about anything romantic right now.
During her discussion with Marie Claire, Megan further explained the physical and mental toll the relationship took on her daily life. She recalled feeling as though she was operating in a constant state of panic and being perpetually on edge, noting that her nervous system needed an opportunity to settle down. She added that she is still working toward regaining her normal eating habits and expressed her commitment to fully processing her feelings without taking shortcuts through the healing journey.
The high-profile relationship between the rap star and Thompson first sparked public interest during the first half of last year. The couple officially confirmed their relationship during a public red carpet appearance at the Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala held in New York City in July 2025. However, after dating for under a year, Megan issued an official statement in April confirming that the two had parted ways. In her April statement provided to Billboard, Megan pointed to infidelity as the primary cause for the split, stating that values such as trust, fidelity, and respect are nonnegotiable in her personal life and that compromised values leave no viable path forward.
Thompson has not publicly addressed the allegations surrounding the breakup. Following the announcement of the split, Megan emphasized her desire to prioritize her own well-being, clarity, and peace. Aside from addressing her personal life in recent interviews, she has remained active in her professional career. According to reporting from Billboard, the artist released her Tina Tuesday Freestyle on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and was officially named among the roster of performers for the upcoming 2026 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
Her most recent studio album, titled Megan, arrived in June 2024 and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart after moving 64,000 total album-equivalent units in its first week. As she moves forward, the Houston rapper remains centered on her personal growth, creative endeavors, and creative output with Act: III, maintaining a clear distance from romantic pursuits while allowing herself the necessary space to heal.
