Katreshia Louis-Verrett has officially returned to North Carolina A&T State University as the institution's athletic director, taking over the department on Sept. 1, according to reporting from Andscape.

Louis-Verrett previously worked at North Carolina A&T from 2011 to 2017 as associate athletic director, managing compliance and departmental resources. Her appointment makes her just the second female athletic director in the university's 135-year history, following DeLores 'Dee' Todd, who held the position from 2005 to 2007.

Nationwide data underscores the rarity of women in top collegiate sports administration. Research conducted by Arizona State University and the non-profit organization Women Leaders in Sports shows that women hold under 16% of athletic director roles across NCAA Division I institutions. Speaking to Andscape, Louis-Verrett stated that capability in executive management is not defined by gender, adding that her focus remains entirely on delivering strong performance and supporting the university community.

Before launching her career in athletic administration, Louis-Verrett was a standout student-athlete at the University of Miami, where she competed in track and field and earned two Big East championship titles. Her administrative resume includes roles as assistant compliance director at Georgia Tech and deputy athletics director at the University of Alabama at Birmingham prior to her return to Greensboro.

Louis-Verrett told Andscape that her history as a collegiate student-athlete directly shapes her administrative strategy. Having experienced the daily demands placed on student-athletes, she views her primary responsibility as providing the structural and academic support necessary for their success. She described the athletic department as a unit operating like a mini village, responsible for preparing student-athletes to travel, compete, return, and excel academically.

Her return has drawn positive feedback from student-athletes and staff alike. Morgan Rodriguez, a sophomore on the university's women's golf team, told Andscape that Louis-Verrett has proven to be highly accessible and deeply invested in student-athlete welfare. Brian Holloway, associate athletics director for communication, described Louis-Verrett as a dedicated advocate for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.

Reflecting on her goals for the program, Louis-Verrett told Andscape she aims to build a strong operational foundation that ensures long-term growth and keeps North Carolina A&T athletics aligned with the university's broader academic standing.
