Media personality and recording artist Joe Budden made an on-screen guest appearance in an episode of the long-running television drama 'Law & Order,' expanding his entertainment footprint into scripted television, according to reporting from Billboard.

In the episode, titled 'Property,' Budden portrayed an influential music figure named Big Switty. The character enters the plot when law enforcement officials focus on him during an active homicide investigation. Detectives uncover a recorded phone message left by the rapper targeting an art broker named Andrew Carson, according to Billboard.

During the storyline, Budden's character leaves a heated warning on the broker's voicemail, stating, 'Hey, Carson. You wanna make this thing ugly? I'll break your face ugly.' When approached and questioned by detectives regarding the threat, Big Switty explains the context behind the confrontational message, according to Billboard's account of the episode.

The character clarifies to investigators that the conflict stemmed from an unsatisfactory transaction involving a substantial financial loss. Big Switty tells the detectives he paid $300,000 for an Egyptian mask that turned out to be counterfeit, stating he simply wanted his money returned. He subsequently offers information regarding Carson's girlfriend while maintaining his innocence in the fatal incident.

Budden's character also establishes an alibi when pressed by detectives about his whereabouts at 9:30 p.m. the previous evening. According to the scene reported by Billboard, Big Switty tells the officers that he was eating dinner in the company of both his manager and his attorney during the timeframe in question.

The scripted television role arrives amid an active business partnership between Budden and veteran television producer Dick Wolf, the creator of the 'Law & Order' franchise. Billboard reported that the two figures launched a true-crime audio series titled 'Crime in America.'

'Crime in America' released its debut episode on August 11 and has published four episodes in its inaugural season, according to reporting by Billboard and Variety. The audio show focuses on criminal cases gaining national attention, providing weekly updates on developments as they occur. Billboard noted that the production features input from journalists supplied by Advance Local and Headline Studio to deliver background details on the profiled cases.

Budden's appearance on 'Law & Order' highlights how hip-hop figures and independent podcasters continue to expand their visibility across major network television platforms, navigating creative opportunities in collaboration with established broadcast leaders.
