Jenny McCarthy Details Past Recruitment Attempts by Tom Cruise and Church of Scientology
In an appearance on her podcast, Jenny McCarthy claimed that actor Tom Cruise repeatedly attempted to recruit her and then-partner Jim Carrey into the Church of Scientology. McCarthy also detailed an unsettling moment while holding baby Suri Cruise at the actor's 2006 wedding rehearsal dinner.

Actress and media personality Jenny McCarthy has shared claims regarding past encounters with Hollywood star Tom Cruise, stating that the actor repeatedly attempted to recruit her and her former partner Jim Carrey into the Church of Scientology, according to reporting by Complex. McCarthy shared the account during an episode of The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show while in conversation with guest Anne Gollert Hill, an author and former Scientologist.
McCarthy and Carrey were in a relationship for five years, dating from 2005 until 2010. According to Complex's report on the podcast episode, McCarthy explained that during their relationship, Cruise reached out on multiple occasions with invitations aimed at bringing the couple into his religious orbit. Specifically, Cruise invited them to travel to his personal residence in Aspen, Colorado.
However, Carrey consistently refused Cruise's overtures, according to McCarthy's recollections on the program. McCarthy explained that Carrey was skeptical of the motives behind the invitations, believing that church members were seeking an opening to draw them into the organization. As McCarthy stated on her show, Carrey warned her that Scientologists were simply aiming to lure them in, noting that representatives of the group had already approached him previously and that he had turned them down.
In addition to the Aspen invitations, McCarthy detailed an unsettling encounter that took place during the festivities surrounding Cruise's 2006 wedding to actress Katie Holmes. According to Complex, McCarthy attended the rehearsal dinner alongside Carrey and was seated directly across the table from Cruise and Holmes. During the meal, a nanny brought out the couple's infant daughter, Suri Cruise, who is now twenty years old according to the reporting.
When McCarthy asked if she could hold the baby, she claimed that the entire room went silent and focused their attention directly on her. Describing the moment on her podcast, McCarthy stated that she received what she described as the "Scientology stare," likening the sudden atmosphere to the psychological horror film Rosemary's Baby. She noted that Holmes handed over the child slowly while complete silence enveloped the table.
McCarthy explained that she simply whispered a greeting to the infant before returning her to Holmes. Once the baby was back in Holmes's arms, the gathered guests abruptly resumed their conversations as if nothing had occurred. McCarthy recalled feeling terrified by the episode, stating during the interview that she felt as though she was in the belly of the beast and had never experienced such fear in her life.
As reported by Complex, Cruise first entered Scientology in 1986 after being introduced by his first wife, eventually developing into one of the organization's most prominent public advocates. The publication noted that Cruise's dedication to the faith has reportedly contributed to fractures across his personal and familial life, resulting in estrangement from Holmes and their daughter. Kulture Newz has not independently confirmed McCarthy's claims regarding the recruitment efforts or the events of the dinner.
