Jarvis Christian University Gets $1 Million in $12 Million Dimon Foundation Gift to HBCUs
UNCF announced a $12 million gift from the James and Judith K. Dimon Foundation, with $1 million going to Jarvis Christian University to strengthen its endowment. The funding, split among 12 HBCUs, aims to expand health care and education pathways.
University officials said the endowment gift "will never be spent, only grown," and will support new programs including phlebotomy certification, according to KLTV. President Dr. Glenell M. Lee Pruitt said the funds will help address rural health care and teacher shortages in East Texas, where 55% of rural hospitals are at risk of closing.
Recipients of the broader $12 million gift include Benedict College, Dillard University, Tuskegee University and Voorhees University, among others. Jamie Dimon, JPMorgan Chase's chairman and CEO, previously served on UNCF's board.
