Howard University has officially launched a new AI research lab in partnership with several major tech companies, positioning the school — and HBCUs broadly — at the front of the AI conversation.
The lab will focus on areas where HBCU researchers have long led the way: AI ethics, bias mitigation, healthcare applications for underrepresented communities, and education. Students will work alongside industry researchers on real-world projects, with funded pathways into internships and full-time roles.
For Howard, it's another milestone in a strategic push to be a national leader in computing. For HBCUs as a whole, it's a model for what these partnerships can look like when done right.
