An online exchange between professional boxer Gervonta Davis and veteran hip-hop artist Papoose escalated after Davis publicly criticized undisputed boxing champion Claressa Shields, according to reporting by The Shade Room. The feud began after Davis posted disparaging comments regarding the wardrobe Shields wore during an Atlanta event promoting her music project, prompting Papoose to step forward in her defense with pointed personal critiques of his own.

According to The Shade Room, Shields hosted an album listening party on Monday, Nov. 2, in Atlanta to preview her debut musical release, titled "What Did You Expect." For the gathering, Shields wore a one-piece jumpsuit highlighting a risqué lace-up detail along the back. After video recordings from the promotional event spread across social networks, Davis took to Instagram to mock her look, bluntly declaring that Shields appeared "a hot a** mess."

Papoose promptly responded to Davis on his Instagram Story to defend Shields, as reported by The Shade Room. In his initial public comments, the rapper targeted Davis's recent boxing outing, pointing to the fighter's March 2025 match against Lamont Roach Jr. During the ninth round of that bout, Davis took a knee in the ring, which contributed to a majority draw that stood as Davis's first non-win as a professional boxer.

Davis attributed the stoppage to hair grease dripping into his eyes, although his hairstylist publicly disputed that claim in a subsequent statement. Highlighting that controversial moment, Papoose posted that Roach had gotten the better of Davis and mocked Davis's explanation by emphasizing the stylist's denial.

The Shade Room reported that Papoose continued his public barrage across further Instagram Story updates, referencing past domestic violence allegations involving Davis and women. Challenging the fighter directly, Papoose wrote, "You too tall to be making threats bozo. Now, try that shit you did to your girlfriend on me. Woman beating a** n***a." Papoose concluded his social media remarks by criticizing Davis's behavior, writing, "I think dancing like a woman every chance you get is corny. But who’s judging? @gervontaa."

Davis did not back down after Papoose's series of critical posts, returning to social media with additional verbal shots aimed at the veteran rapper, according to The Shade Room. The public confrontation between the high-profile prizefighter and the seasoned lyricist has sparked ongoing commentary across hip-hop and sports circles online, as supporters on both sides analyze the swift escalation that began with remarks over an album launch outfit.
