Emanuel Wilson Leads Seattle Seahawks Backfield After Breakout Game

Former Johnson C. Smith and Fort Valley State running back Emanuel Wilson recorded 120 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns in Seattle's 30–23 win against the Chargers. His big performance came on the same weekend his godbrother, JCSU running back Fabian Duncan, rushed for 224 yards.

Former Johnson C. Smith University and Fort Valley State University standout Emanuel Wilson delivered a career-defining performance for the Seattle Seahawks, accumulating 120 yards from scrimmage and scoring two touchdowns in a 30–23 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, according to reporting by HBCU Gameday.

The former undrafted free agent made his first start for Seattle on October 4 as the Seahawks navigated backfield injuries. With rookie running back Jadarian Price placed on injured reserve and Zach Charbonnet recovering from an injury, Wilson stepped up to carry the primary rushing workload. He posted 21 carries for 81 yards with an eight-yard rushing touchdown while adding three receptions for 39 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown catch on a screen pass.

His performance provided a major lift to a Seattle ground attack that had generated just 44 rushing yards in its previous contest against Washington, HBCU Gameday reported. Following the game, Seahawks right tackle Abraham Lucas praised Wilson's tough running style, stating, "He put his head down, and he ran like a badass. I’m happy for him."

Through four games this season, Wilson has gathered 190 rushing yards on 53 carries alongside three catches for 39 yards and two scores. Seahawks fantasy insider Scott Engel highlighted Wilson's value as a top waiver option ahead of Seattle's matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, noting his effectiveness as both a runner and receiver with Charbonnet sidelined and Price on injured reserve.

Wilson's path to an NFL starting spot reflects years of determination across the college and professional ranks. At Johnson C. Smith in 2019, he earned CIAA Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after rushing for 1,040 yards and 13 touchdowns. He later transferred to Fort Valley State, where he played under coach Maurice Flowers and produced 1,371 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns during his final collegiate campaign.

After going undrafted, Wilson had a short stint with the Denver Broncos before joining the Green Bay Packers, where he played three seasons and recorded a 107-yard, two-touchdown game against Minnesota in November 2025. Seattle signed the running back in March.

Wilson's big weekend coincided with a stellar performance by his godbrother, Fabian Duncan. A day prior to Wilson's NFL breakout, Duncan rushed for 224 yards on 25 carries and scored three first-half touchdowns to lead Johnson C. Smith to a 51–0 win over Bluefield State. Duncan, who earned 2025 SIAC Player of the Year honors at Allen University before transferring to JCSU, trained with Wilson at JCSU's Eddie C. McGirt Field earlier this year. HBCU Gameday reported that Wilson stated during their workouts, "I try to give him everything that I didn’t get… pouring time into him."
