Cameron Edge and Jaylon Tolbert Named First 2027 HBCU Legacy Bowl Selections
Morgan State quarterback Cameron Edge and Alcorn State quarterback Jaylon Tolbert have been selected as the first two participants for the 2027 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl. The Black College Football Hall of Fame confirmed the invites for the showcase, set for February 2027 in Atlanta.

The Black College Football Hall of Fame announced Tuesday that Morgan State quarterback Cameron Edge and Alcorn State quarterback Jaylon Tolbert are the first two players invited to the 2027 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl, according to reporting by HBCU Gameday.
The postseason all-star showcase, scheduled for Feb. 27 at Georgia State's Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta, marks the game's relocation from New Orleans. The game will air live on NFL Network and feature approximately 100 NFL draft-eligible prospects from HBCU rosters across the nation, HBCU Gameday reported.
Edge was selected to represent Team Gaither, while Tolbert will suit up for Team Robinson. Both signal-callers have charted distinctive paths across the MEAC and SWAC to earn the premier roster spots of the 2027 game cycle.
At Morgan State, Edge has piloted a remarkable resurgence for head coach Damon Wilson's squad. Through six games of the 2026 campaign, the senior quarterback has completed 68.3 percent of his attempts for 1,337 yards and 11 touchdowns, as reported by HBCU Gameday. Following earlier collegiate stops at Maryland and Eastern Michigan, Edge brought explosive balance to a Bears program historically anchored by defense.
Edge guided Morgan State to a 5-1 start and the program's first Stats Perform FCS Top 25 ranking. His standout moment arrived in a 38-35 victory over Villanova, where Edge threw for 444 yards and three scores while rushing for two touchdowns, including the game-winner with only 36 seconds remaining. Morgan State followed that performance with a 28-27 comeback win against Robert Morris, cementing his national credentials.
Tolbert's selection highlights his own rapid ascent in SWAC football after transferring from Howard ahead of the 2025 season. During the 2024 season in Washington, D.C., Tolbert appeared in six games, passing for 820 yards and six touchdowns. He picked up MEAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after throwing four touchdown passes during Howard's 35-21 victory over Morehouse at MetLife Stadium.
Since stepping under center for Alcorn State, Tolbert has become one of the most prolific passers in the SWAC. Through seven games in 2026, he has completed 65.9 percent of his throws for 2,005 yards and 19 touchdowns, according to HBCU Gameday. Tolbert recorded five-touchdown passing performances against Miles, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and Grambling State, collecting SWAC Newcomer of the Week and HBCU National Co-Player of the Week accolades along the way.
The Legacy Bowl will afford both passers extended scrutiny in front of scouts and NFL evaluators when the event convenes in Atlanta this winter.
