Disney+ Partners With Channel 4 to Stream Live and On-Demand British Television Across U.K. and Ireland
The Walt Disney Co. and British public broadcaster Channel 4 have announced an expansive distribution agreement to bring live and on-demand programming to Disney+ in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The collaboration aims to expand audience reach by blending traditional free-to-air content with the subscription streaming platform.

The Walt Disney Co. and United Kingdom broadcaster Channel 4 have completed an expansive programming pact described as a landmark collaboration that will integrate Channel 4's primary broadcast feed and extensive on-demand catalog into Disney+ across the U.K. and Ireland, according to reporting by The Hollywood Reporter.
Under the arrangement, Disney+ subscribers in both territories will gain access to Channel 4's high-definition linear network alongside hundreds of hours of unscripted and scripted programming at no extra cost, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. Select new commissions will premiere day-and-date on Disney+ concurrently with their release on Channel 4. Featured programming cited by the companies includes the drama Maya starring Bella Ramsey, the comedy Stepping Up starring Denise Welch, the reality competition Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, as well as library titles such as Big Mood, Tip Toe, and 24 Hours in A&E.
Financial terms surrounding the agreement were not publicly disclosed. Inside the Disney+ application, Channel 4 programming will live inside a dedicated branded hub designed to mirror the streamer’s existing navigation structure.
Channel 4 Chief Executive Officer Priya Dogra told The Hollywood Reporter that adapting to changing media consumption patterns drove the decision. Dogra explained that meeting viewers where they already spend time allows the broadcaster to distribute its public service slate to wider demographics without abandoning its existing linear and digital platforms. Dogra emphasized that Channel 4's owned and operated channels and streaming services remain vital components of the network's strategy.
Karl Holmes, general manager for Disney+ across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, described the agreement to The Hollywood Reporter as the platform's most ambitious regional venture to date. Holmes noted that local original commissions and partnerships with established public broadcasters have fueled recent growth, reporting a 30 percent subscriber increase across EMEA over the past 18 months.
Disney direct-to-consumer chairman Adam Smith stated that pairing culturally relevant local programming with Disney+ technology supports the media conglomerate's broader international subscriber retention targets. The streaming giant has executed similar partnerships across continental Europe with broadcasters in Germany, Spain, Italy, and Portugal, following an earlier U.K. alliance with ITV.
Measurement statistics from British ratings agency BARB cited by The Hollywood Reporter underscore the demographic incentives behind the merger. Viewers aged 16 to 34 represent 39 percent of Disney+'s audience profile compared to 10 percent of Channel 4's viewer base, providing the British broadcaster with immediate exposure to a significantly younger demographic.
