A bankruptcy court auction has finalized the sale of Damon Dash's life rights and personal archive for $550,000 to production company Everlasting Films. The transaction comes as a court-appointed trustee works to settle more than $25 million in debts tied to the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder.

Music entrepreneur Damon Dash has seen his life rights and archival assets sold for $550,000 during a court-supervised bankruptcy auction, according to reporting by Billboard based on federal court records filed on Oct. 21.

Production company Everlasting Films submitted the prevailing $550,000 bid, securing the property over competing bidder Doug Peters. Under the terms detailed in the court filings, Everlasting Films acquired the exclusive commercial rights to Dash’s life story, as well as rights encompassing his name, voice, image, and likeness. The transaction additionally includes 100 hours of archival material collected by Dash stretching back to 1990, alongside the rights to a Roc-A-Fella film production that Dash had been developing.

According to Billboard, the deal does not transfer any equity or corporate ownership stakes in Roc-A-Fella Records itself. Dash originally co-founded the legendary hip-hop imprint in 1994 alongside Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Kareem “Biggs” Burke. Dash’s one-third ownership interest in the record label, including royalty rights connected to Jay-Z’s 1996 debut studio album Reasonable Doubt, was already auctioned off in 2024 to satisfy mounting tax liabilities.

The capital generated from this latest auction will be distributed by a court-appointed trustee to address Dash’s extensive financial obligations, which total roughly $25.3 million. Court filings reviewed by Billboard reveal that Dash’s liabilities include $19 million owed to state tax agencies across New York, New Jersey, and California. The claims also encompass approximately $600,000 in unpaid child support obligations and nearly $5 million owed to film producer Josh Webber stemming from a judgment for defamation and copyright infringement.

Dash entered Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings in September, disclosing liabilities that substantially eclipsed his existing assets. At the time of his initial bankruptcy filing, Dash stated that his liquid assets consisted of only $100 in cash, paired with personal possessions, including clothing, jewelry, and firearms, valued at a combined $4,250.

Under Chapter 7 bankruptcy regulations, an assigned trustee gathers and liquidates non-exempt property belonging to the debtor to repay outstanding creditors in accordance with legal priority. Once available assets are liquidated and proceeds are disbursed, qualifying remaining balances may be discharged, granting the debtor an opportunity for a clean financial slate.

Legal representatives for Dash and Everlasting Films did not immediately provide comment regarding the outcome of the asset auction, Billboard reported.
