Commanders' Tyler Owens Goes Viral for Special Teams 'Whupping'
Washington Commanders special-teamer Tyler Owens became a viral sensation after fighting through a double-team and tackling a punt returner in Week 1. J.J. Watt called it one of the greatest football plays he's ever seen.
Washington Commanders safety Tyler Owens delivered a special teams play that has been viewed more than 18 million times, according to the team's official site. Lined up as a punt gunner against a double-team, Owens fought through both blockers before tackling Eagles returner Britain Covey.
Former Pro Bowl defensive end J.J. Watt called it "legitimately one of the greatest football plays I've ever seen," while special teams coordinator Larry Izzo described it as "just a sheer ass whupping."
Owens, an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech now in his third season, shrugged it off. "It was just a good rep," he said.
