CocoLash Founder Faith McCoy Scriven Champions Time, Autonomy and Accessible DIY Glam
CocoLash founder Faith McCoy Scriven is transforming at-home lash application into an accessible, low-stress routine for Black women. In an interview with MadameNoire, the entrepreneur reflected on stepping away from salon friction to build a time-efficient beauty brand.

Maintaining personal beauty routines has increasingly become a complicated commitment for Black women navigating unpredictable salon policies, nonrefundable deposits, and rising costs of living. In an interview with MadameNoire, CocoLash founder Faith McCoy Scriven highlighted how these growing hurdles inspired her to build a business dedicated to convenience, simplicity, and autonomy.
Scriven, a classical pianist who debuted with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at age 14 and earned a master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music, traveled an unconventional route to beauty entrepreneurship. After performing at Carnegie Hall and working in technology as Stripe's first non-engineering hire, she and her family relocated to Atlanta. The couple ultimately acquired a hair extensions business, where Scriven spent years handling fulfillment, customer service, and website operations to learn the industry from the ground up.
In late 2024, Scriven began exploring ways to diversify her business portfolio. A lash enthusiast herself, she found herself frustrated while researching competing products, citing overwhelming digital storefronts, excessive style options, and marketing that overlooked women of color. That experience led to the debut of CocoLash, which launched with 10 core styles designed to keep everyday beauty accessible.
Rather than relying solely on traditional strip lashes, CocoLash focuses on lash clusters, allowing wearers to customize their look according to their eye shape. According to reporting from MadameNoire, styles such as Daisy, Violet, and Peony provide softer everyday definition, while Poppy and Dahlia deliver fuller volume. The company also introduced Fern and Ivy, pre-glued half lashes that eliminate external bonding adhesive, allowing wearers to complete application in roughly 30 seconds and maintain the look for up to five days with proper care.
Scriven told MadameNoire that her customer base spans millennials and older consumers, including women in their 70s trying false lashes for the first time. To accommodate different skill levels, CocoLash has broadened its educational tutorials, including Spanish-language guides, while consistently cautioning users to use designated lash remover rather than pulling lashes off to protect natural growth.
Beyond product design, Scriven emphasizes responsive, one-on-one customer care, personally reaching out to shoppers and addressing feedback directly. For Scriven, the ultimate goal is helping women enjoy small, restorative grooming rituals on their own schedules without turning beauty into another exhausting chore.
