The Clark Atlanta University community is dealing with profound heartbreak following the death of Morgan Gamble, a 21-year-old senior who was killed in a high-speed car crash in Atlanta. The tragedy occurred during what is traditionally a celebratory week of campus homecoming activities.
According to reporting from HBCU Gameday, the collision happened on Tuesday, Oct. 13, near the intersection of Hank Aaron Drive and Glenn Street. The Atlanta Police Department reported that Gamble's car was struck by a vehicle traveling more than 94 miles per hour in a posted 35-mph zone. First responders transported Gamble to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities identified the other motorist as Nikolai Dunford, according to police records cited by HBCU Gameday. Dunford faces multiple criminal charges in connection with the fatal wreck, including first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and speeding. The incident has intensified longstanding community discussions regarding street safety and reckless driving in neighborhoods surrounding university campuses.
Gamble was remembered by friends, classmates, and faculty not only for her athletic presence with the university's softball program, but also for her determined drive toward media arts. As a senior studying mass media, Gamble had already begun translating her academic training into practical industry experience, building a portfolio that spanned student leadership, media production, and podcasting.
Among her professional milestones, Gamble worked on the upcoming Netflix continuation of "A Different World," the landmark sitcom celebrated for introducing millions of television viewers to the culture and pride of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Her ambition was apparent to everyone close to her from an early age.
Speaking to local broadcast station WSB-TV, her mother, Brandi Gamble, reflected on her daughter's relentless dedication to her creative calling. "She knew what she wanted from day one. I think coming out of the womb. She wanted to produce, and she did it," she said.
In response to the sudden loss, Clark Atlanta University leadership released a formal statement extending condolences to Gamble's family, close friends, and academic peers. University officials also announced that on-campus counseling resources and grief support services have been mobilized to assist students processing the tragedy during homecoming week.
As the campus family reflects on her legacy, Gamble is remembered as a passionate student-athlete whose creative trajectory and dedication embodied the highest aspirations of the HBCU community.
