Cardi B Vows to Avoid Raising Children in New York Following Fatal Shooting of Bronx Teen Javitz Frimpong
Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B announced she refuses to raise her children in New York City following the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Bronx student Javitz Frimpong. In a video addressing the tragedy, she cited relentless youth bullying culture as a catalyst for street violence and gang recruitment.

Cardi B has voiced strong grief and concern regarding the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Javitz Frimpong, declaring that the tragedy has cemented her decision not to raise her children in New York City, according to a report by Vibe. Frimpong, a high school student who emigrated from Ghana to the United States last year, was gunned down on Oct. 29 while traveling to DreamYard Preparatory School in the Bronx.
In a video clip shared across social media and reported by Vibe, the Bronx native and Grammy Award winner reflected on the circumstances surrounding Frimpong's death, which allegedly stemmed from persistent targeting and harassment by peers in his neighborhood. Cardi B condemned what she described as an entrenched culture of hostility among youth across the city.
Addressing her followers, the artist stated that intimidation starts at an exceptionally early age in New York neighborhoods. “The kids in New York are mean,” Cardi remarked, as reported by Vibe. “And the bullying don’t start when you’re in middle school. It don’t start when you’re in school. These little kids in New York start bullying you from the first grade.”
Drawing from her own personal background, the Invasion of Privacy musician directly linked systemic bullying to the pressure of joining local street organizations. She referenced her past membership in the Bloods gang, stating that her participation was an effort to protect herself from childhood mistreatment. “When somebody fucks with you or picks on you, that makes you want to join a gang,” she stated in the recording. “That’s practically what happened to me.”
Cardi B also responded directly to ongoing public discourse attributing bullying exclusively to African American youth targeting foreign arrivals. She maintained that newcomers face hostility across diverse communities, often even from American-born peers who share their ethnic or national heritage. According to Vibe, she pointed out that new arrivals from African nations or the Dominican Republic are frequently targeted across the board.
“Everybody be bullying the new kids that come from foreign countries, that be coming from Africa or D.R. Everybody bullies them. Even their own kind,” she explained, noting that newly arrived immigrant children are treated like easy targets by locally raised youth.
The mother of three emphasized that Frimpong's murder solidified her resolve to keep her family away from the local public school system and inner-city neighborhoods. She specified that she would never raise her children in the Bronx, Harlem, Washington Heights, or in a New York public school, suggesting instead that families consider relocating to neighboring states like Pennsylvania.
According to Vibe, no arrests have been announced in connection with Frimpong’s murder. Kulture Newz has not independently confirmed whether law enforcement has identified any suspects in the ongoing investigation.
