Angela Stanton-King Makes Bold Pitch for White House Press Secretary Post
Conservative commentator Angela Stanton-King is publicly lobbying for the position of White House press secretary following the abrupt departure of Katie Zacharia after five days on the job. Stanton-King, who received a presidential pardon from Donald Trump in 2020, took to social media to promise an unscripted, direct approach behind the podium.

Conservative political commentator Angela Stanton-King is making a high-profile public pitch to become the next White House press secretary, lobbying directly for the position after the previous spokesperson departed after less than a week on the job, according to reporting by theGrio.
The public appeal surfaced after Katie Zacharia stepped down from the press secretary post on Oct. 16, just five days into her tenure. That sudden vacancy followed scrutiny over Zacharia's debut press briefing and emerging questions surrounding her professional credentials, including claims regarding legal practice without having passed the California bar exam. According to Reuters reporting cited by theGrio, Donald Trump had publicly suggested Zacharia reconsider whether the taxing communications post was an appropriate match for her before her exit was finalized.
Seizing on the sudden opening, Stanton-King published a direct message on Threads arguing that the West Wing requires an unapologetic spokesperson willing to defend the administration without hesitation. In her post, she stated that the administration needs a press secretary possessing common sense, a sharp tongue, and zero tolerance for nonsense, asking Trump directly to appoint her to the position while promising she would get the job done without relying on scripts or sugarcoating.
Stanton-King's history with Trump includes a high-profile act of executive clemency. On Feb. 18, 2020, Trump granted her a full presidential pardon addressing a 2004 federal conspiracy conviction
Following that pardon, Stanton-King launched a campaign as a Republican candidate in Georgia's 5th Congressional District during the 2020 election cycle. She initially mounted a challenge against the late civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis, and later faced Democrat Nikema Williams following Lewis' death. Williams ultimately won the general election contest. Since that congressional run, Stanton-King has operated as an author, conservative commentator, and head of the American King Foundation, an organization focused on family reunification and criminal justice advocacy.
Stanton-King is not alone in seeking the vacant podium. Far-right activist Laura Loomer also made public appeals across social media following Zacharia's departure, prompting coverage from outlets including The Washington Post and Mediaite.
While Stanton-King posted an unverified image portraying herself behind the White House briefing podium, the administration has made no official announcement regarding Zacharia's permanent replacement. Furthermore, theGrio noted that there is no confirmed indication the White House is formally vetting or considering Stanton-King for the communications appointment.
